De ascendência nipónica, o britânico Kazuo Ishiguro não era um dos favoritos ao prémio da Academia Sueca, mas acabou por ser o grande vencedor e considerado “um romancista absolutamente brilhante”.
Depois da tão polémica atribuição do prémio, o ano passado, a Bob Dylan, havia quem já esperasse uma surpresa. Descrito por The New York Times como «um génio extraordinário e original» Kazuo Ishiguro tem títulos como “Os Despojos do Dia”, com o qual venceu o Booker Prize, em 1989, adaptado ao cinema em 1993; “Nunca me Deixes” (2005), também adaptado ao cinema, em 2010; “Nocturnos” (2009) e “O Gigante Enterrado” (2015).
As reacções, entretanto, não se fizeram esperar. Em declarações à BBC, o próprio Ishiguro afirmou que a atribuição do prémio era «uma magnífica honra porque, acima de tudo, significa que estou a seguir as pisadas dos maiores autores que já viveram». Já a porta-voz da Academia adiantou que a mesma teve apenas como critério a distinção de um «romancista que julgamos ser absolutamente brilhante».
Para Guilherme Valente, editor da Gradiva (editora dos livros, identificados na foto) , «a publicação da obra de Kazuo Ishiguro é uma grande satisfação intelectual, de gosto e profissional, mas não constitui uma surpresa, pois já há muito esperava a atribuição do Prémio Nobel a este autor: Kazuo Ishiguro é um dos mais importantes ficcionistas do restrito e muito exigente catálogo de ficção estrangeira da Gradiva.»
